Getting Ready for your Session:

Your business portrait session will only last about 30 minutes, and is mostly a clean head and shoulders image.  However, I do recommend getting ready head to toe.  While your shoes may not be seen in the final image, there is a certain feeling you get when you are dressed your best all the way through and you look better when you feel better.  Also, it allows the opportunity to do a full length portrait if we find that is the best for you and your profession.  It is good to have options.  And, speaking of options, feel free to bring more than one outfit.  I have a changing room with a mirror, so you can try different combinations.  Click here for our  HEADSHOT PORTFOLIO to see what others have done.

When determining what to wear, consider the impression you want to make.  Your look should show off both your personality and accurately represent what you do for a living.  Are you a banker?  Then a suit and tie create trust and care.  A Telluride Real Estate Agent?  You want two looks, a summer look and a winter look.  You can use either image along with a real estate ad and it fits the season of your property image.   Other very specific professions may dictate a different look, such as a chef, an outdoor guide, or a ski instructor, in which case we would want to take a look at moving your portrait to another location or your environment, such as a kitchen, in a river or on the mountain, and a that is a different kind of portrait, which we can do for you, just give us time for creative planning.    However, head shots are about your face, shoulders and upper body and somewhat neutral in color, style and impression.  An image where your face is easy to recognize, and where you look your best.  Then, you can use the image anywhere and everywhere for all your social media and web applications.  Check out our PORTRAIT TIPS for more tips.

For clothing,  you want to select simple and clean styles, even a solid color shirt, sweater, jacket and often a structured collared, with sleeves.  I always tell my clients to pick the clothing that goes best with your hair, eyes or skin tone, and then we will select a backdrop to compliment your needs and colors.

Once you have picked out your best stuff, then try it on (head to toe) and check it carefully.  Does it still fit?  Look for stains, holes, pills, stray threads or missing buttons. Speaking of buttons, can you still button or zip it ?  Do you need jewelry or a tie?  If something is not quite right, then let's reschedule so you can repair or replace if needed.

Make Up and Styling:

I suggest having a STYLIST available for your session.  A make-up artist can do wonderful things for you to become photo-ready by helping with hair and makeup.  I can arrange for a fabulous local make-up artist to meet you at your place or at my studio about 30 minutes before your session.  If you are confident in how you apply your make-up, then just bring your make-up case and show up 30 minutes ahead of your session to get dressed in my dressing room.  I have a blow dryer, curling irons, hair spray and a big mirror.     And, we also offer beautiful RETOUCHING SERVICES for that unexpected blemish.
